Claude Code's 50% Usage Boost Really Ends Aug 31 This Time

The “50% more weekly usage” deal that’s been running since May is, this time, actually ending. Anthropic’s support center now says the 50% boost to Claude Code’s weekly usage limits will shut off for real at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on August 31, 2026 — and this is already the third time this promotion has been extended.
What This Promotion Actually Subsidizes
According to Anthropic’s official documentation, the promotion directly raises Claude Code’s weekly usage limits by 50%, and it applies across every interface — the CLI, IDE extensions, the desktop app, and the web version — so however you’re calling Claude Code, your quota gets scaled up together. One important caveat: the 5-hour session usage limit is not affected by this promotion; Anthropic’s own wording is explicit: “5-hour usage limits are not affected by this promotion.” It applies to Pro, Max, and Team plan users, as well as Enterprise customers on the legacy per-seat billing model; it does not apply to the Free plan or to Enterprise seats billed on a consumption basis. Anthropic also emphasizes that the boost applies automatically — no action is required from users.
Extended Three Times Already — Is This Really the Last One?
This promotion was never meant to run this long. It first launched on May 13, 2026, when Anthropic’s official account, ClaudeDevs, announced: “Claude Code weekly limits are increasing 50%, now through July 13.” In other words, the original end date was July 13. But before that date arrived, Anthropic pushed it back to July 19; then again to August 19; and now, for a third time, to August 31. From mid-May to the end of August is more than 100 days — far longer than what a “short-term promotion” would typically imply.
Anthropic’s Own Admission: This Is a Capacity Problem, Not Just Marketing
What’s notable is that Anthropic, in this latest extension announcement, was unusually candid about the reasoning behind it. The ClaudeDevs post reads: “We’re extending the 50% increase to weekly Claude Code limits through August 31. We hope to make this a permanent change to our plans, but strong demand for our models means that capacity may be tight over the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted as things develop.” In plain terms: Anthropic actually wants to fold this 50% boost into its standard plans permanently, but demand for Claude models has been so strong that compute capacity is tight, so it hasn’t been able to make the boost official yet. Each extension, in that sense, is less a marketing gesture and more a signal that capacity still hasn’t caught up.
What Happens After August 31
The support document is direct about this: “After August 31, 2026, weekly usage limits in Claude Code return to their standard levels.” Once the promotion expires, weekly limits simply drop back to their original, standard levels — there’s no change to billing plans or contract terms, just the disappearance of the extra headroom. The terms also specifically note that the offer “has no cash value and is not transferable,” and cannot be combined with other offers. For heavy users who’ve gotten used to that extra 50% over the past few months, the most immediate effect of the rollback will likely be having to budget usage more carefully within a week, or moving up plans for a higher tier sooner than planned.
Why This Expiration Date Is Worth Taking Seriously
The previous two extensions were both announced right around the original deadline, but this time Anthropic chose to announce the new August 31 cutoff ahead of time, and its wording more explicitly than before points to tight capacity as the deciding factor in whether it extends again. If you’re a heavy Claude Code user relying on it for substantial development work, it’s worth watching over the next few days whether Anthropic extends the offer once more — and worth taking stock now of where your current weekly usage sits relative to the standard limit, so the rollback doesn’t catch you off guard if the promotion really does end on schedule this time.
